We’re one week away from Thanksgiving and are sharing children’s book reviews before the big day!
Today we’re reading “Giving Thanks: more than 100 ways to say thank you” and it is giving…thanks! We are loving Ellen Surrey’s colorful illustrations and retro vibes. What I appreciate most about this picture book is the variety and imagination. It reminds us of all the ways we can be thankful and show that gratitude to others. Each spread poses a question, prompting readers to think about who and what they are thankful for. It also encourages ways they can show their gratitude. It’s something you can return to time and again! Children can use it as a reminder of all the good things we have in our lives. It helps promote mindfulness practice. It can also help with writing notes to loved ones.
In the back are two activities (creating a gratitude jar and writing thank you notes) with even more gratitude ideas. The out-of-the-box ideas are a great way to prompt creative gratitude–just in time for Thanksgiving!
We definitely grade this Thanksgiving picture book worthy of at least a library check out. You should consider purchasing it from your favorite independent bookstore or Amazon. And this would be a great addition to our Thanksgiving Break Plans activity packet!
