Welcome to Big Little Plans. A place where BIG plans are made for little hands.
You are a busy parent, guardian, or family member. And you can find books, toys, gadgets, advice, lessons, and videos EVERYWHERE you look. But you know that somewhere there is a special mix that brings it all together. You want activities that are designed so your children can really engage and thrive (or even just be out of your hair for a few minutes!). You seek beautiful books that help teach your children how to be their best and see the best in the world around them. And it wouldn’t hurt if some STEM were involved, too.
I am a bibliophile and planner. Books are magic. I swoon over a color-coded calendar. I love a structured itinerary. And then along came kids. Life is hectic and chaotic, but two things are true:
- With kids in tow, you have to learn to go with the flow.
- But it sure is good to have a plan to fall back on!
Young children especially thrive on having a schedule and knowing what’s coming next–it gives them a sense of stability in the world, especially when many other things are often in flux. After school tends to be the witching hour, when meltdowns can seem inevitable. When it comes to holidays and vacations, a week long break from school can result in anything from moodiness to hyperactivity, and it’s all normal! Having a few activities planned (knowing that you are flexible enough to deviate when called for) can help the whole family relax and navigate transitions and changes in routine. That’s where Big Little Plans comes in.
I spend hours and hours researching books and activities, but also methodologies for raising and teaching children, child psychology, and the science of brain and motor development. I find it FASCINATING. It is vital for children to have tasks that allow them to learn new skills, to stretch their creativity, to connect to nature, and to move their bodies. In meal planning you need to consider ingredients, time management, and nutrition for the best results. Similarly, making wholesome plans for kids takes a certain amount of consideration, research, and organization.
We take a thoughtful approach to everything from recommending books to designing weeklong plans to support families. Every child has their own unique personality and interests, but all kids love to be immersed in interesting work, projects, and stories. I hope you enjoy all that comes with our website.
